God damn it, don’t you see? It was never meant to be. I’ve had too much...

Richard Beck, "5.4" →
This article has had a lot of attention paid to it recently, and I finally read it today while sitting in the waiting room of a medical clinic in St. Paul. I liked a few things about it, while I found others quite bothersome.
As a sort of cultural history, I think it’s really interesting if for no other reason because it confirms my thesis that Radiohead’s Kid A is the end of the...

To My Knowledge, I Have Only Seen Between Two And...
Yesterday, I decided to make a list of my ten favorite films of 2011. I thought about it for a while, and then realized that I couldn’t. These are the only films released in 2011 which I have seen (in no particular order):
Midnight in Paris, dir. Woody Allen
Weekend, dir. Andrew Haigh
The Trip, dir. Michael Winterbottom
Meek’s Cutoff, dir. Kelly Reichardt
Cave of Forgotten...

A Response To My Previous Post
My friend Chris Maroulakos notes:
This is the cover of the remastered Abbey Road: http://www.albumartexchange.com/gallery/images/public/be/beatle-abbeyr_24.jpg. As you can see, it’s the same picture (bare feet and all) as on the classic album. The picture you have on your iPhone must be an outtake, not the actual cover.
Chris is indeed correct: the photograph I earlier identified as the cover...

Fredric Jameson, "Realism and Utopia in The Wire" →
I’m not always in agreement with Fred, but I really enjoyed this essay. At the very least, it helped me to further understand Frank Sobotka, who I’ve always seen as a sort of postmodern Willy Loman.
